Boro are reportedly keen on a summer move for Colombus Crew striker Gyasi Zardes – but face Premier League competition.
Zardes has enjoyed a goal-rich season in the MLS, scoring 20 goals in 36 appearances which has resulted in interest from several overseas clubs.
According to TEAMtalk, Boro are keeping a keen eye on the 6ft 2in forward but face stiff competition from the top flight.
Premier League trio Fulham, Huddersfield and Crystal Palace are all said to be in the hunt for Zardes, whilst Leeds and Norwich have also been credited with interest.
The 27-year-old boasts a wealth of versatility and can play anywhere across the front-line, but is predominately deployed as a centre-forward.
Zardes joined Columbus Crew from LA Galaxy a year ago in a swap deal and has already halved his tally at the Los Angeles club in just a single season.
The Black & Gold striker’s record is impressive, but a disastrous 2017 campaign at Galaxy saw him score just two goals, even playing three games at right-back.
He has since enjoyed a career resurgence at Columbus, which has coincided with a recall into the international set-up.
The majority of his USA caps came between 2015 and 2016, but positional changes led to a dip in form and consequently left him down the pecking order.
But having returned to his favoured centre-forward position, the LA born front man has enjoying himself in front of goal and could soon be on his way to England.
