Boro are poised to announce their first signing of the summer, with Paddy McNair having completed his move from North-East rivals Sunderland.
McNair travelled to Rockliffe Park on Monday afternoon to undergo a successful medical after agreeing personal terms over the weekend, report The Northern Echo.
The Northern Ireland international will become Boro’s first signing of the summer and confirmation of the £5million move will come later in the day.
It means McNair will be available to feature in Boro’s opening pre-season friendly against Sturm Graz on Thursday July 5.
The first team squad reported back for pre-season training yesterday and will jet out to Austria for a week-long training camp on Wednesday, in which they will face the Austrian side before returning to England.
Tony Pulis was in the market for a midfielder after Everton’s Mo Besic returned to Goodison Park following his successful short stint on Teesside, and can check one position off his summer wish list.
McNair represents good business for Boro with the former Manchester United man not only providing versatility for Pulis but also a keen eye for goal.
The 23-year-old bagged five goals in 19 games from midfield including four in his last five for the Black Cats and ended his time on Wearside strongly, despite a turbulent injury-plagued season.
