A round-up of how Boro’s loanees fared for their loan clubs this week.
The La Liga season doesn’t get underway until next week, so Antonio Barragan doesn’t feature in this week’s round-up. His Real Betis side face Barcelona on August 20th.
Joe Fryer (Stevenage)
Started the cup defeat to Millwall on Tuesday night as well as the following league match against Colchester, which ended 1-1.
Boro boss Darren Sarll defended Fryer after the match for an ‘honest error’ which led to Colchester’s equaliser. “Of course [I’m disappointed with the goal conceded] but there’s so much praise for Joe for his save in the first-half that keeps it a 0-0,” he said.
“It’s an honest error on the day by someone who isn’t going to make too many of them; he’s the best goalkeeper in our league.”
Matthew Elsdon (Inverness)
Unfortunately on the wrong end of a hammering as Inverness went 5-1 down to Dunfermline – their third consecutive league defeat. Elsdon played the full match and received a 23rd minute booking.
Callum Cooke (Blackpool)
Missed the midweek cup defeat to Wigan on Tuesday through injury, and was absent again against MK Dons on Saturday. No word on the return date as of yet.
Robbie Tinkler (Gateshead)
The defensive midfielder played the full 90 minutes in Gateshead’s 1-0 win against Guiseley on Tuesday, and the 3-0 win against Torquay United four days later.
Harry Chapman (Blackburn)
Came on in the 71st minute for Tony Mowbray’s side in the midweek cup win against Coventry. The 20-year-old watched on from the bench against newly promoted Doncaster a few days later as Blackburn continued their disappointing start to life in League One with a 3-1 defeat.
Joao Morelli (FC Levadia)
Dropped to the bench against Paide having scored a hat-trick against them just three days before. Came on in the 62nd minute though, and then returned to the starting 11 in the 2-1 defeat to Tallinn on Friday. Former Boro winger Tarmo Kink was in the squad for that game.
Connor Ripley (Burton)
Made his Brewers debut against his former club Oldham on Tuesday as the Championship side ran out 3-2 winners. The 24-year-old was then dropped to the bench for the game against Hull on Saturday, which they lost 4-1.

Julien de Sart (Zulte Waregem)
Started against Club Brugge but was on the losing side as Zulte Waregem were defeated 2-1, with former Boro loanee Jelle Vossen scoring for the opposing side.
