Loan Watch – Miller scores, Mahmutovic handed debut

Back on the scoresheet…

George Miller had gone a while without a goal before Saturday’s game against Doncaster, last netting in Bury’s final day draw against Wimbledon last season.

But in the striker’s defence, he’s been shifted to more of a bit part role in the opening stages of this season, playing second fiddle to Eoin Doyle and new signing David Ball.

A few cameo appearances has resulted in just one assist for the 20-year-old which came on the opening day against Shrewsbury.

But in an otherwise forgettable day against Doncaster on Saturday came Miller’s first goal of the season.

The League One outfit were two goals down before Miller struck nine minutes from time to give the Yorkshire side a glimmer of hope which, in the end, proved to be mere consolation.

And the rest…

Luke Armstrong was hoping to be back for the Chesterfield game this weekend, according to sports writer Jeff Bowron. But the 22-year-old was absent again as Gateshead ran out 3-0 winners.

Aynsley Pears started that game at the Proact Stadium – keeping his third clean sheet of the season, with the win moving the Heed up to ninth.

Hayden Coulson was restored to St Mirren’s starting line-up against Hamilton Academical following last week’s draw to Celtic. Unfortunately for the young defender, he was forced off just 31 minutes into the 3-0 defeat with an injury.

Alex Pattison played the full 90 minutes for Yeovil as Swindon Town ended their seven game unbeaten run at Huish Park.

Connor Ripley played the full 90 minutes for Accrington Stanley as they ended their run of 1-1 draws to grind out a 2-1 victory against AFC Wimbledon on home soil.

Nathan McGinley started and played the full 90 minutes and kept a clean sheet in Forest Green Rovers’ narrow 1-0 win against Crawley Town.

Marvin Johnson started on the bench for Sheffield United but was subbed on with just over 15 minutes to go in their 3-2 win at home to Preston.

Enes Mahmutovic, fresh from international duty with Luxembourg, was handed his Yeovil debut in the 3-0 defeat to Swindon Town.
