The Boro Breakdown – Mikel in, Downing saga & Boo-gate

The Boro Breakdown were back on hand to give their thoughts on the week’s events, which meant for a interesting series of discussions.

It all started at the Riverside, where Boro stumbled against struggling Millwall but were handed a get-out-of-jail card when Daniel Ayala was pushed in the penalty area.

Hugill’s converted spot kick was a big moment in the game, but one that merely papered over the cracks in a game that lacked overriding quality.

Jonny, Elliott and Dana gave their thoughts on the performance and the subsequent booing and criticism of that by midfielder Adam Clayton.

The week was also dominated by the imminent signing of former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel – a move that has since been completed.

Is Mikel’s arrival good for an already stacked Boro midfield?

There was also reaction to the news of Stewart Downing’s contract saga, in which the midfielder will trigger an automatic one-year contract extension if he makes one more start.
